Friday then saw the gas lamp bases being fitted from under the roof in readiness for the upper sections to be fitted at a future date.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-2575\" src=\"https:\/\/furnessrailway.co.uk\/about\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/20220513_154044A-768x1024.jpg\" alt=\"John Dixon fitting the rain strips on GER No. 5\" width=\"660\" height=\"880\" srcset=\"https:\/\/furnessrailway.co.uk\/about\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/20220513_154044A-768x1024.jpg 768w, https:\/\/furnessrailway.co.uk\/about\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/20220513_154044A-225x300.jpg 225w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 660px) 100vw, 660px\" \/>John has since been assembling the roof rain strips for fitting.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-2576\" src=\"https:\/\/furnessrailway.co.uk\/about\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/20220513_154202a-768x1024.jpg\" alt=\"The torpedo vents painted white\" width=\"660\" height=\"880\" srcset=\"https:\/\/furnessrailway.co.uk\/about\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/20220513_154202a-768x1024.jpg 768w, https:\/\/furnessrailway.co.uk\/about\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/20220513_154202a-225x300.jpg 225w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 660px) 100vw, 660px\" \/>The torpedo vents have been painted undercoat white, again in readiness for fitting.<\/p>\n<p>Keith paid a visit to an engineering firm in Halifax that used to supply the all important screw for screw reversers to British railways in steam days. A new screw has now been commissioned for former GWR 4-6-0 locomotive No. 4979 <em>Wooton Hall<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Finally, this being a short and sweet update leaves room for the following treat! Local film maker Gary Cunliffe has been putting together a short historical documentary telling the story of Furness Railway No. 20. He has used recent film footage taken at the Ribble Steam Railway and referred to <em>The Iron Horse<\/em> and the publication <em>The Great Survivor<\/em> which detailed FR 20&#8217;s history and restoration.
