The guard irons have been<br \/>\nremoved as well as the brick arch and the engine was steamed cleaned last<br \/>\nThursday.<\/p>\n<p><em><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-2807\" src=\"https:\/\/furnessrailway.co.uk\/about\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/20230125_114126-AT-1024x498.jpg\" alt=\"Caliban's boiler sprayed for NDT exam\" width=\"660\" height=\"321\" srcset=\"https:\/\/furnessrailway.co.uk\/about\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/20230125_114126-AT-1024x498.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/furnessrailway.co.uk\/about\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/20230125_114126-AT-300x146.jpg 300w, https:\/\/furnessrailway.co.uk\/about\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/20230125_114126-AT-768x373.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 660px) 100vw, 660px\" \/>Caliban<\/em>\u2019s boiler was subjected to non-destructive testing on Monday, 23rd<br \/>\nJanuary. The initial results were encouraging and we await the final report.<\/p>\n<p><em>Cumbria<\/em> had been well used at the Embsay &amp; Bolton Abbey Steam Railway<br \/>\nfollowing its re-tube and subsequent return to traffic at the end of October.<\/p>\n<p>Alan, Ade, Tim and John Dixon visited Embsay yesterday to discuss winter<br \/>\nmaintenance. It was agreed that one of the eccentrics needs to be re-metalled<br \/>\nand this will be brought to Preston once it has been dismantled.<\/p>\n<p>Needless to say, the opportunity was also taken to look at Stephen Middleton\u2019\u2019s collection of coaches, including the Great Eastern Railway royal saloon of 1877 built for\u00a0the then Prince of Wales. It was fascinating to compare this early build coach\u00a0with our own GER No. 5 which was built in 1898 for the Princess of<br \/>\nWales!<\/p>\n<p>Finally, we have had to incur some unexpected expenditure in repairing the<br \/>\nentrance door to the FRT shed, which was completed today.
