It is due to leave Preston on Wednesday 29<sup>th<\/sup> March, after having taken part in the Ribble Steam Railway gala on the 25<sup>th<\/sup> and 26<sup>th<\/sup> March.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-2813\" src=\"https:\/\/furnessrailway.co.uk\/about\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/20230211_113207A-768x1024.jpg\" alt=\"Sam works inside FR 20's smokebox on the 11th February\" width=\"660\" height=\"880\" srcset=\"https:\/\/furnessrailway.co.uk\/about\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/20230211_113207A-768x1024.jpg 768w, https:\/\/furnessrailway.co.uk\/about\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/20230211_113207A-225x300.jpg 225w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 660px) 100vw, 660px\" \/>The boiler surveyor visited Preston last Thursday to undertake the 14 month dry examination of FR 20 and Sam is seen working in the smokebox on Saturday when the safety valves were also fitted in anticipation of a steam test in the coming weeks.<\/p>\n<p>The other piece of news is that 5643 is now expected to return to Preston for its 10 year overhaul this Thursday morning, 16<sup>th<\/sup> February, its previously planned return having been postponed by the haulier.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-2814\" src=\"https:\/\/furnessrailway.co.uk\/about\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/20230201_141113-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"First view of the new moquette on the chaise longue\" width=\"660\" height=\"495\" srcset=\"https:\/\/furnessrailway.co.uk\/about\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/20230201_141113-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/furnessrailway.co.uk\/about\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/20230201_141113-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/furnessrailway.co.uk\/about\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/20230201_141113-768x576.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 660px) 100vw, 660px\" \/>Work has continued at Preston on Great Eastern Railway\u00a0Royal Saloon No. 5 where we have a first view of the new moquette being fitted to the chaise longue in the east saloon.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-2815 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/furnessrailway.co.uk\/about\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/20230201_121628-e1676318594108-768x1024.jpg\" alt=\"John Davis and Phil Bell fit a new ceiling in the guard's compartment of GER No. 5\" width=\"660\" height=\"880\" srcset=\"https:\/\/furnessrailway.co.uk\/about\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/20230201_121628-e1676318594108-768x1024.jpg 768w, https:\/\/furnessrailway.co.uk\/about\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/20230201_121628-e1676318594108-225x300.jpg 225w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 660px) 100vw, 660px\" \/>A new ceiling has been fitted to the guard\u2019s compartment and\u00a0the kitchen ceiling has been painted. Phil Bell has been re-fitting woodwork in the kitchen to marry up with the newly installed tiles whilst John Dixon has been re-installing panelling in the royal lavatory compartment. Tim has been scouring the internet to locate suitable sinks and a gas hob that will fit within the tight dimensions of the kitchen.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-2817 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/furnessrailway.co.uk\/about\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/Kettle-e1676318684782-1024x498.jpg\" alt=\"A red card for the old kettle\" width=\"660\" height=\"321\" srcset=\"https:\/\/furnessrailway.co.uk\/about\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/Kettle-e1676318684782-1024x498.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/furnessrailway.co.uk\/about\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/Kettle-e1676318684782-300x146.jpg 300w, https:\/\/furnessrailway.co.uk\/about\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/Kettle-e1676318684782-768x373.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 660px) 100vw, 660px\" \/>Finally, talking of kitchen accessories, the FRT\u2019s mess room suffered a near disaster (!)\u00a0 recently when the PAT testing man condemned the kettle!
