{"id":3684,"date":"2025-12-03T10:30:00","date_gmt":"2025-12-03T10:30:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/furnessrailway.co.uk\/about\/?p=3684"},"modified":"2025-12-02T10:31:53","modified_gmt":"2025-12-02T10:31:53","slug":"monday-1st-december-2025","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/furnessrailway.co.uk\/about\/?p=3684","title":{"rendered":"Monday, 1st December 2025"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>We are in December and heading fast towards Christmas, but still plenty of work to do before then!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><br>Most efforts have recently been concentrated on stripping down the Trust\u2019s \u2018Austerity\u2019 0-6-0ST Cumbria in preparation for the 10 year overhaul of its boiler. Ron Crowe, Ed Tatham and John Dixon have been working hard on this culminating in the chimney, cab roof and saddle-tank being lifted off the<br>locomotive last Wednesday, 26th November. As ever, Ade was in charge of the logistics of moving Cumbria round to the Ribble Steam Railway\u2019s workshop, with assistance from Dave Billington, so that the overhead crane could be used.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/furnessrailway.co.uk\/ciac\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/image.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2002\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><br>The cab roof is lifted:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/furnessrailway.co.uk\/ciac\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/image-1.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2004\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><br>The saddle-tanks touches down on Stewart Waugh\u2019s wagon:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/furnessrailway.co.uk\/ciac\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/image-2.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2005\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><br>Once these components had been removed it was then possible to start removing Cumbria\u2019s clothing (as it is known), with John Dixon seen here cleaning down the running board after the cladding plates had been removed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/furnessrailway.co.uk\/ciac\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/image-3.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2006\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><br>Meanwhile, Jon Dixon has also been working to spruce up 5643\u2019s cab and Tim Owen has applied the first coat of British Railways gloss green paint to the outside of the bunker.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/furnessrailway.co.uk\/ciac\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/image-4.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2007\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><br>Following its boiler washout, Furness Railway locomotive No. 20 has been moved into the RSR\u2019s museum for the Christmas period and the duration of the visit to the RSR of the Railway 200 Inspiration Train during the first full week in January.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/furnessrailway.co.uk\/ciac\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/20251122_150837-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"FR 20 with Father Christmas in the RSR's museum\" class=\"wp-image-1998\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><br>Jo Booth and Dave Hughes have found a slot in their work schedule to take the front of Furness Railway No. 25\u2019s cab into the paint shop to give it a couple of coats of red oxide primer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/furnessrailway.co.uk\/ciac\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/20251129_112242-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"Jo Booth and Dave Hughes with the front of FR 25's cab in the paint shop\" class=\"wp-image-1999\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><br>Finally, don\u2019t forget the FRT\u2019s Christmas Dinner at 7pm on Friday evening at the Pig &amp; Whistle on Blackpool Road, Preston..<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><br><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>We are in December and heading fast towards Christmas, but still plenty of work to do before then!
