Fingers crossed!<\/p>\r\n<p>\r\n\r\n<\/p>\r\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">In the meantime, there has been plenty to keep the Trust\u2019s volunteers busy over the last week or so.<\/p>\r\n<p>\r\n\r\n<\/p>\r\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">Ron decided to clean up Hunslet \u2018Austerity\u2019 0-6-0ST Cumbria\u2019s blast pipe and then give the finished product a coat of heat resistant paint \u2013 we hope that he isn\u2019t too disappointed when the paint gets burnt off!<\/p>\r\n<p>\r\n\r\n<\/p>\r\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\r\n<p>\r\n\r\n<\/p>\r\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2067\" src=\"https:\/\/furnessrailway.co.uk\/ciac\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/20260128_115830A-768x1024.jpg\" alt=\"Ron painting Cumbria's newly cleaned blast pipe\" \/><\/figure>\r\n<p>\r\n\r\n<\/p>\r\n<p><br \/>Alan spent some time assessing Cumbria\u2019s eccentrics and Dave, Anthony and Alan then set about removing the eccentric straps which have now been cleaned and await further attention.<\/p>\r\n<p>\r\n\r\n<\/p>\r\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2068\" src=\"https:\/\/furnessrailway.co.uk\/ciac\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/20260130_142718-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"Alan examining Cumbria's eccentrics\" \/><\/figure>\r\n<p>\r\n\r\n<\/p>\r\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\r\n<p>\r\n\r\n<\/p>\r\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2069\" src=\"https:\/\/furnessrailway.co.uk\/ciac\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/20260204_115110-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"Dave Thomas, Anthony Fisher and Alan Middleton working to dismantle Cumbria's eccentric straps\" \/><\/figure>\r\n<p>\r\n\r\n<\/p>\r\n<p><br \/>The Trust\u2019s boiler surveyor, Adam Wright, visited yesterday and is seen here busy with his trusty hammer testing Cumbria\u2019s firebox rivets as part of the locomotive\u2019s 10 year out of frames examination. Adam concluded that the firebox crown stays will need replacing although the rest of the boiler was deemed to be satisfactory.<\/p>\r\n<p>\r\n\r\n<\/p>\r\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2070\" src=\"https:\/\/furnessrailway.co.uk\/ciac\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/20260216_112415A-768x1024.jpg\" alt=\"Adam Wright testing Cumbria's firebox rivets\" \/><\/figure>\r\n<p>\r\n\r\n<\/p>\r\n<p><br \/>Alan and John were busy dismantling the safety valves ready for inspection.<\/p>\r\n<p>\r\n\r\n<\/p>\r\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2071\" src=\"https:\/\/furnessrailway.co.uk\/ciac\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/20260216_115340A-768x1024.jpg\" alt=\"Alan and John dismantle one of Cumbria's safety valves.\" \/><\/figure>\r\n<p>\r\n\r\n<\/p>\r\n<p><br \/>Furness Railway locomotive No. 20 underwent its 14 month examination during Adam\u2019s visit and it now due to undergo a steam test next Monday.
