Welcome to the Furness Railway Trust’s website. We invite you to explore and learn more about our charity and the work of our dedicated volunteers who restore and maintain our locomotives and rolling stock.
The Trust was established in 1991 and since 2010 has been based alongside our partners the Ribble Steam Railway where our engineering workshop has been built. The Trust owns Britain’s oldest working standard gauge steam locomotive, Furness Railway No. 20 along with Furness Railway No. 25 – later Barrow Hematite & Steel Co No. 17, GWR duo 0-6-2T No. 5643 and 4-6-2 Hall Class No. 4979 Wootton Hall, 0-6-0T Austerity Cumbria, 0-4-0T Peckett Caliban and Barrow steelworks 0-4-0 diesel shunter Fluff – as well as our vintage carriages.
