It has been a busy time again for members of the Furness Railway Trust. Keith and his team have been continuing the job of reassembling the chassis components of Great Western Railway 0-6-2T No. 5643. Keith and Ron are seen here re-fitting the reverser spring.

Paul has been seconded to the running shed and has spent some time finishing the paintwork on the Ribble Steam Railway’s Mark 1 BSK No. 35128 which is nearing the end of repairs, just in time for Christmas.

Tim went to the premises of Statfold Engineering last Wednesday to sign off the repairs to the chassis of ‘Austerity’ 0-6-0ST Cumbria, which is due to land back at Preston tomorrow, Wednesday. This photo shows the big ends and eccentric which have received a lot of attention. The sharp eyed will noticed burnt paint marks on three of the eccentric rods, which have been bent to give a better alignment and, hopefully, reduce wear to the white metal on the eccentric straps.

Preparations have been taking place in readiness for Furness Railway locomotive No. 20’s trip to the North Norfolk Railway. The sales team have borrowed the Ribble Steam Railway’s gazebo and are seen testing their abilities to erect it.

John has completed adjustments to FR 20’s spark arrestor which has been re-fitted.

Daniel is seen cleaning the front of the cylinders and steam chest.

FR 20 set off to the North Norfolk Railway yesterday afternoon.

We are pleased to say that it arrived safely at Sheringham this morning and was moved to the shed at Weybourne. It is due to be in service at the NNR for nine days commencing this weekend 24th and 25th when it will be taking part in the NNR’s Autumn Steam Gala. It will then be operating three round trips
each day during half term week. Needless to say, a number of members are heading off to Norfolk on Thursday to tend to the loco and to operate the sales stand.
